Colden Common win Veterans Cup

COLDEN Common won the Hampshire FA Saturday Veterans Cup final at Hamble’s Follands Park last night.

Man of the match Ian Nash scored a goal in each half to ensure a 2-0 win against Hythe Aztecs.

The midfielder tapped in his first on the stroke of half-time after excellent work from striker Alan Darling, and five minutes into the second half he headed his second at the near post.

Only the crossbar denied him a hat-trick late on, when his thundering volley thudded back off the woodwork.

COLDEN Common won the Hampshire FA Saturday Veterans Cup last night – beating Sporting BTC 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Follands Park.

Common, pictured [above] celebrating, had trailed for most of the 90 minutes after falling behind to Paul Williams’ first half header.

Neil Barker twice levelled in the last 12 minutes, either side of Ben Goodridge restoring Sporting’s lead.

Barker then missed his side’s first penalty in the shoot-out before Gareth Trigell sealed victory at the second attempt. Having first scored what he thought was the winner, he had to take his penalty again after the referee said he had taken his first effort before he had blown his whistle!
